O tenista argentino Diego Schwartzman garantiu, esta terça-feira, a qualificação para as meias-finais do torneio Roland Garros, ao eliminar o austríaco Dominic Thiem, finalista vencido de 2019, numa épica batalha de cinco sets.

Schwartzman, 14.º na hierarquia mundial ATP, bateu o mais recente vencedor do Open dos Estados Unidos e terceiro do ranking, para alcançar um feito inédito na carreira: vai estrear-se numa meia-final de torneios do Grand Slam.

Numa maratona fantástica de ténis, em cinco horas e oito minutos, Schwartzman, que vencera o primeiro parcial, respondeu à reviravolta inicial de Thiem – ganhou o segundo e terceiro sets – e conquistou o apuramento, após levar a melhor no quarto e quinto parciais: 7-6 (7-1), 5-7, 6-7 (6-8), 7-6 (7-5) e 6-2.
