O Funaná é uma prática musical de dança que surgiu na ilha de Santiago, em Cabo Verde, num contexto pós-escravatura no final do século XIX.

Existem diversas versões sobre a origem do nome. Em uma delas, conta-se que havia um casal de tocadores, Funa, que tocava gaita, e sua companheira Na-Ná. Na verdade não temos registros de Na-Ná, pois a história de Funa está cristalizada numa iconoclasta de masculinidade e ruralidade santiaguense. Onde se encontra Na-Ná? Ela existiu? O futuro será a resposta…

Funaná is a dance music practice that emerged on the island of Santiago, Cape Verde, within a post-slavery context at the end of the 19th century.

There are several versions about the origin of the name. In one of them, it is said that there was a couple of players, Funa, who played the harmonica, and his partner Na-Ná. In fact we do not have any records of Na-Ná, since the history of Funa is crystallized in an iconoclast of santiaguense masculinity and rurality. Where is Na-Ná? Did he exist?
